The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter has reiterated its call for the removal of the Anambra State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr Okey Aroh from his position. They renewed this call during their sensitization tour at Awka-North Local Government Chapter of the body.
The state Chairman of the NYCN, Comrade Innocent Nduanya said that Dr Aroh has failed in his responsibility to the youths of Anambra, hence the vote of no confidence recently passed on him. He noted that the recent congress of the council was soiled by the commissioner to favour his candidate which was contrary to the rule of their congress.
His words: “We actually passed a vote of no confidence on the Anambra State Commissioner for Youths and Sports and we sent the letter to His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi; the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mrs Chinwe Nwebili; the Attorney-General of this State; and the Chief-of-Staff of Government House.”
“The reason is that things are not going well in Anambra State as it affects the youths. This State participated in EKO 2012 and we couldn’t get even one medal be it silver or gold while the state government invested a whole lot of money in that project.”
“Again during the youth council congress, the Anambra State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Dr Okey Aroh single handedly wanted to impose a candidate on the youths of Anambra State without due consultation or due process; because we have due process in the youth council congress. The people that would vote in every congress are the cordinators of every local government. This process was was not followed that is why we passed a Vote of No Confidence on him. That is the same thing that happened in Abuja. Due to mishandling of the national youth council congress. The Minister for Youths was relieved of his duty by the Presidency.”
In his speech, Awka-North Cordinator of NYCN, Comrade Emmanuel Obieze noted that the past self-enthroned leaders of the council in the area veered off the right focus chasing shadows instead of substance, adding that the youths of his council is popular for their enterprising spirit.
He said: “Awka-North youths are known for their enterprising spirit but because of the issue of leadership; those who led them in the past were busy chasing shadows instead of worthy cause which is transformation; but wind of change has come to Awka-North.”
On the pitiable state of Awka-North he said: “The State Government being fair to Awka-North is still our problem. The reason is this: they will not be fair to us if we did not put our house together. If we put our house together we can go and get our share from the government. Our people say that togetherness is strength. So what we need to do is to look inwards. Our problem is not external but internal.”
Obieze also called on the government to resolve the crisis rocking Ebenebe community which led to the protest by the women of the area and also the religious fracas in Awba-Ofemmili Community which left over 50 persons injured and 7 churches destroyed.
The event held at the premises of Community Primary School, Isuaniocha was attended by the State Executive Council of NYCN, Anambra State Chapter; Awka-North Executives, Ward Cordinators and Secretaries and large number of youths of the council area.
